Snuggled in Father's Arms
I had one of those Mondays this week. It started with a trip to the dentist's office. One of my fillings was about to pop out, so I had to see him about it. Even though I have a great dentist, I never enjoy receiving shots of Novocain. Even though I don't feel it, the sound of the drill grinding at my tooth makes me wince.
After my visit to the dentist, I had to take my son to the doctor. An ear infection and croup had been robbing him of sleep, which of course denied Emily and me rest, too. Ben has a wonderful doctor, but taking him to the doctor can be a chore emotionally and physically.
Not only did Ben do wonderfully, but I was reminded of a powerful truth while sitting with Ben on my lap in the "sick side" waiting room at the doctor's office. Ben was not well, and he knew where he was and that it might mean receiving a painful shot, so he was snuggled up tightly to me the entire visit. He would have had to crawl into my skin to get any closer to me. Ben was sick, uncomfortable, worried, and weak, and he found comfort being in his daddy's arms.
I can learn from Ben. Maybe you can, too. When I feel sick, uncomfortable, worried, and weak, I should follow Ben's example and draw close to the One who longs for me to draw near. Jesus says, "Come to me, all you that are weary and carrying heavy burdens, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest."
