Investing in a Servant's Heart

The heart of a servant... How precious the heart is to God.  The person with the true servant's heart will always be trying to find ways to serve: their friends and neighbors, their church, those in need, their God.  As servants of Jesus Christ, we are expected to take what God has invested in us and invest into the lives of others.

When we do there is a return on that investment which we, in turn, bring back to God.

"Well done, good and faithful servant, enter into the joy of your Master."  (Matthew 25:23)

In Luke 9, Jesus invests Himself in the Twelve, giving them His power and authority, and then sends them out to proclaim the Kingdom of God and to heal.  When they return to Jesus, they report all that they had done.  Jesus receives a return on His investment in the disciples, the men who He is training to be servants.  But these men Jesus will eventually call "friends."  They progress as faithful servants toward intimacy with God.

Recently I attended a conference in Morton, Illinois, sponsored by the Rural Home Missionary Association (www.rhma.org).  This is an organization that has a tremendous heart for rural and small town churches, and works hard to serve the pastors and leaders of these churches.  It seeks to strengthen and encourage these churches through conferences, consultation, and Godly counsel.  It will even supply a missionary pastor to a church that is having difficulty calling a full or part-time pastor.  This is indeed an organization with the heart of a servant.  I'd also say, "Well done, good and faithful servants!"
