Unconsuming Love?
When did love become unmoving? When did love become unconsuming?
Love is one of the most powerful human emotions. The band, Sidewalk Prophets, pose the two questions above to make us think. Intentionally, the musicians ask the wrong questions. They want us to reply, "Wait a minute! Love is supposed to be moving. Love is to be consuming!"
Love for our spouse, kids, family members, parents, boyfriend or girlfriend, and friends should move us. Love is supposed to consume us. But it doesn't always work that way does it? Husbands and wives can live in the same house and yet share so little love. Sadly, many marriages end in divorce. Families don't get along. Over the years a child may sever all ties with their parents. Friends disagree, something goes wrong in the relationship, and in the end the friendship is lost. Unfortunately, we all know too well that love can be unmoving and unconsuming.
When have you experienced moving and consuming love? What happened? How did it feel? Did it last?
Human love has its' ups and downs. There are times when love consumes us and we love sacrificially. Other times, our love is weak and lukewarm. There are times when our love is selfish and we may even withhold our love; destroying a relationship.
There is one love we can experience which is always moving and all-consuming. It is the love of God.
Romans 8:38-39 says, "For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels or demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to seperate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord."
Deuteronomy 4:24 reads, "For the LORD your God is a consuming fire."
When you find love in your life to be unmoving and unconsuming remember God loves you... His love for you will never fail.
