The Day Pigs...Chirp?
For some reason I'm always wanting to know why things are the way the are. I've always been like that. I'm not satisfied to just know that an engine runs on gasoline and gets me around places fine and dandy. My mind is constantly wondering how things like that work. How does the gasoline power the engine? And what part does the piston play in the whole process? And where does oil fit into the equation?
One day last week, I was out at the State Park walking, and I just happened to notice some birds chirping. All of a sudden it hit me that there have been very few times in my life that I've actually just stopped and listened to the birds. Usually I'm too busy with something else that I don't even notice them. So I just listened for a few minutes. Naturally my mind began the curious questioning: Why do birds do that? Why are their noises so soothing compared to say a pig's snorting or a cow's mooing? What if a bird made pig noises and a pig chirped like a bird?!?!
You're probably thinking, what's your point here turbo? My point is this: I don't think we do this enough...and if we did, I think we'd understand God's goodness more. I'm sure there is some scientific explanation of why birds chirp and what they use it for (probably attracting a mate or something, ha). But in that moment at the State Park, God spoke to my heart and helped me understand how much He loves me.
My thought is that God made birds to chirp because He is creative and good like that. His works are so awesome and fulfilling. Mornings would be pretty LAME if it were completely silent and there were no sunrises. I believe God wants to satisify us daily. The sad part is that we rearely slow down to receive from Him...
I would challenge you to slow down sometime today and listen for God. He might speak through something you were totally not even expecting...like the birds you've never listened to :)
"How many are Your works, O LORD! In wisdom You made them all; the earth is full of your creatures... May the glory of the LORD endure forever; may the LORD rejoice in His works - He who looks at the earth, and it trembles, Who touches the mountains, and they smoke. I will sing to the LORD all my life; I will sing praise to my God as long as I live. May my meditation be pleasing to Him, as I rejoice in the LORD." (Psalm 104:24, 33-34)
